PHOTO CONTEST RULES 2012 -  Youth contest

1. The 2012  Youth “Images of Independence” photography Contest (the ³Contest²) is
open to legal residents of the United States. Employees and immediate family
members of the City of Independence, GateHouse Media, Inc., and GateHouse
Media Missouri Holdings II, Inc. d/b/a the Examiner (collectively,
³GateHouse Media²) are prohibited from participating in this Contest. For
purposes of this Contest, ³immediate family members² is defined as spouses,
siblings, parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren, whether as
"in-laws", or by current or past marriage, remarriage, adoption,
co-habitation or other familial extension,
2. The Contest will run from 9 a.m., Central Standard Time on Saturday, May
7, 2012 to midnight, Central Standard Time on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
Pictures that have been taken before May 5, 2012 may be entered as long as
they have not been previously published or be under consideration for
publication or prizes elsewhere.

3. Entries will be accepted only via online registration at www.examiner.net.
To enter, follow the online directions to register, submit the entry form
and download images. Participants must provide their name, address, phone
number and email address. Incomplete entries are void.  Once registration is
complete, participants can use the same username and password to enter more
pictures at any time until the Contest is over.

4. By registering and entering the Contest, all participants agree to be
bound by these rules and the decisions of City of Independence Tourism
Department regarding the Contest, whose decisions shall be binding and final
in all respects.

5. All photos must be submitted by the original photographer. By entering a photo,
the participant represents that: (1) he or she is the owner of the image,
(2) the image does not infringe on a copyright, trademark or right of
privacy of another and (3) the photo does not defame another person. (4.) Participant
 also represents that he or she is under the age of 18 as of May 5, 2012.

6. Images must be high resolution in JPEG format with a maximum size of 8 meg
and made with a camera of at least 3 megapixels. Digital editing of a minor
nature is permitted, such as for color, tint, cropping, red eye fixes, and
one step enhancements (such as autofix or quick fix) but significant
modifications or alterations are not allowed.  No borders, frames,
watermarks, signatures or copyright notices may be added to images. <br><br>

7.Photos must be taken in the City of Independence. A list of tourism
attractions which have agreed to allow photos to be taken for the Contest is
listed for your convenience, however photos need not be taken there.

8. All entries become the exclusive property of the City of Independence,
which reserves the right to publish and license any submitted images in
printed materials, on the tourism website, www.visitindependence.com or for
any other media or promotional purposes, without any compensation, royalty
or photo credits to the photographer or models.

9. For each winning photograph that includes identifiable people, a signed
model release (available on the Contest website) from EACH identifiable
person in the photo must be provided by the photographer to the City of
Independence Tourism Department within ten days of the notification of
winning.  In the case of minors, the parent or guardian must sign the model
release on their behalf.  Should the winner not return a signed release in a
timely fashion, they will be disqualified and another winner will be
selected.

10. Winners must also provide a photographer’s talent release, signed by an adult
or guardian on behalf of minor photographer (available on the Contest website)
to the City of Independence Tourism
Department within ten days of notification of winning.   Should the winner
not return a signed release in a timely fashion, they will be disqualified
and another winner will be selected.  

11.  Staff of the Examiner and Independence Tourism will select 10 finalist after
the Contest closes September 9. Beginning Monday, October 1 at 9:00 a.m., Central
Standard Time, the public is invited to vote online at the Contest website
for a period of two weeks, with public online ending at midnight Central
Standard Time on Monday, October 15. Only one (1) vote per day per email
address is allowed for each category (adult and youth).  The use of any
automated system to submit votes is prohibited.

12.  A grand, first and second place winner will be selected. The winners will be
determined by the total number of votes received. In the event of a tie, Independence
Tourism will randomly pick the winners from among the tied entries.


13. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 30 online at the Contest
website and in the print edition of the Examiner.  Some prizes may not be
awarded if the Judges determine that not enough acceptable entries are
received. All decisions are final.  

14.Three (3) prizes will be awarded in the Contest as follows: Gift cards from
Strikerz Entertainment Center, 18900 E. Valley View Parkway, Independence,
good for pizza or other concessions, bowling, arcade or laser fun.
Youth Grand prize ¬ A $100 gift card for Strikerz Entertainment Center.
Youth First place ¬$$75 gift card for Strikerz Entertainment Center.
Youth Second place ¬$50 gift card for Strikers Entertainmetn Center.  

15. By accepting a prize, participants grant to the City of Independence and
GateHouse Media the right to use and publish their name in print or any
other media format in connection with the Contest without compensation or
permission.

16. All taxes, fees or surcharges associated with prizes are the sole
responsibility of the prize winners.  

17. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received for the Contest.
Winners will be notified via the phone numbers with which they registered.
In the event that any prize notification is undeliverable within 48 hours by
phone, an alternate winner will be selected.  

18. Neither the City of Independence nor GateHouse Media is  responsible for
late, lost, damaged, destroyed or misdirected entries, miscommunications,
misdirected transmissions or other errors of any kind whether human,
mechanical or electronic or damage to computers of participants or third
parties resulting from participation in the Contest or  using the Contest
web site.  

19. Participants release and hold harmless the City of Independence and
GateHouse Media, as well as any directors, officers or employees of these
organizations from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of
any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest.

20. The City of Independence Tourism Department reserves the right to
disqualify any person found to be tampering with the Contest or the Contest
website or acting in violation of these rules.  

21. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of being conducted as
planned, the City of Independence Tourism Department reserves the right, in
its¹ sole discretion, to cancel, modify, suspend or terminate the Contest
without notice to the entrants.

22. No purchase is necessary to participate or win this Contest. This Contest
is void wherever restricted or prohibited by state or local laws.

23. Participants agree that any disputes arising out of or in connection
with the Contest shall be governed in accordance with Missouri law and
jurisdiction and venue for any claim or cause of action arising under this
Contest shall be exclusively in the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Missouri.
Any awards made based on such claims shall be limited to actual out of
pocket costs incurred.  

24. This contest is sponsored by The City of Independence and GateHouse
Media.  

25. A list of winners can be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped
envelope to Independence Tourism, P.O. Box 1019, Independence, MO, 64051
after October 25, 2011.

photographer, the City of Independence, Missouri and Gatehouse Media

payment, royalties or compensation, the nonexclusive, perpetual and
irrevocable right to use my picture, portrait, or photograph in all forms of
media and in any manner, including electronic media and/or composite
representations, for advertising, trade, publication or any other lawful
purposes. I waive any right to inspect or approve the finished product,
including written copies that may be created in connection therewith.
I am 18 years or older and I have read this release and am fully familiar
with its contents.
